JODI Oil World Database
Joint Organisations Data Initiative. Run by APEC, Eurostat, IEA, OLADE, OPEC, GECF and UN Statistics Division. Hosted by the International Energy Forum.
114 reporting economies. Monthly data from January 2002 to present.
Product: "Kerosenes" (kerosene-type jet fuel and other kerosene).
We use 2024 annual averages with 2023 fallback where incomplete.

Seven countries do not report usable jet-kerosene volumes in JODI: UAE, Qatar, Iran, Oman, Singapore, Brazil, Hong Kong. For these, we use EIA International Energy Statistics estimates from approximately 2021. These are marked in the data.

Strait of Hormuz

Gulf state jet fuel export volumes in the Hormuz module are taken directly from JODI 2024 export data for Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE, Qatar, Iran and Iraq. Total transit volume (~21 mb/d) from EIA analysis published November 2023, sourced from Vortexa tanker tracking data.

Bilateral Trade Flows

UN Comtrade Database
United Nations Statistics Division. 6,728 bilateral trade records from 74 reporting countries. HS code 271019 (medium petroleum oils, including kerosene and jet fuel). Data from 2022-2023 (most recent available). Mirror data used where reporter data unavailable (e.g., if France doesn't self-report, partner countries' reported imports from France are used).
comtradeplus.un.org — free preview API, full data requires registration.

HS 271019 covers medium petroleum oils broadly, not exclusively jet fuel/kerosene. The specific jet fuel sub-code (27101921) is not universally reported at bilateral level. Reported volumes should be treated as an upper bound for jet fuel specifically.

Volumes converted from annual tonnes to kb/d using 7.88 barrels per tonne.

Product Definition

JODI reports "kerosenes," which covers kerosene-type jet fuel and other kerosene (heating, cooking). For most countries this is predominantly aviation fuel. Countries where the broader category may include material non-aviation kerosene: China, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Philippines.

Net position = refinery output minus domestic consumption. A country may produce crude oil but lack jet fuel refining capacity.

Units

All volumes: thousand barrels per day (kb/d). 1 barrel ≈ 159 litres / 42 US gallons.
